The Myalup State Forest Limestone operation is situated approximately 8 km southeast of Lake Clifton within the South West region of Western Australia, embedded in a pine plantation managed as state forest. The terrain is characterised by low-relief coastal plain with sandy-loam overburden overlying oolitic limestone and limesand horizons. Intense seasonal rainfall across the Peel-Harvey catchment creates significant mud management challenges on unsealed forest access tracks, requiring regular grading and geotextile reinforcement to maintain haul truck trafficability year-round.
B2B Lifecycle and Operations
The project operates under mining leases M70/1319, M70/1320 (PMR Quarries / WA Limestone) and M70/1307 (Rocla Quarry Products), all at Operating status. Extraction targets construction-grade limestone and limesand for regional civil and agricultural markets. Operational workforce is sourced on DIDO rotating rosters from Mandurah and Bunbury corridors; no permanent camp infrastructure is confirmed, placing full dependency on local accommodation and daily road commute logistics, which amplifies fatigue-risk exposure during extended wet-season shifts.
Engineering and Extraction Infrastructure
Primary extraction employs drill-and-blast or rip-and-load methodology suited to soft-to-medium limestone. Crushed and screened material is transferred via mobile conveyor systems to stockpile zones within the lease boundary. Complex multi-stage conveyor configurations manage high-volume limesand throughput, minimising truck re-handle cycles. Dust suppression infrastructure — water carts and fixed sprinkler arrays — is critical given the fine-particle nature of limesand product fractions. Road-base and aggregate sizing is controlled through modular screening decks integrated into the conveyor circuit.
ESG, Value Chain and Sustainability
Operating within a state forest plantation imposes stringent environmental licence conditions under the WA Environmental Protection Act. Progressive rehabilitation is mandated post-extraction, including topsoil reinstatement and native understorey revegetation aligned with DWER requirements. While limesand extraction generates minimal coarse tailings, fine-fraction slurry management and sediment containment bunds are required to protect the Peel-Harvey wetland system. Proactive ESG reporting to the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) underpins social licence continuity for both operating entities.
