Mt Marion is situated approximately 40 km south of Kalgoorlie-Boulder within the Coolgardie district, Goldfields-Esperance Region, Western Australia. The terrain is characterised by extreme arid conditions — low annual rainfall, high evaporation rates, and sparse scrubland vegetation typical of the Eastern Goldfields. Water scarcity is a primary operational constraint; all process water is sourced, recycled, and managed under strict allocation licences, making water infrastructure a mission-critical asset for continuous plant operation.

Mt Marion operates as a fully active, 24/7 open-pit spodumene operation, managed entirely by MinRes under the 50/50 joint venture structure with Ganfeng Lithium. The site demands uninterrupted diesel fuel supply for a heavy fleet of excavators, haul trucks, and ancillary equipment. Grid power dependency via dedicated substation infrastructure sustains the Dense Media Separation (DMS) and flotation processing circuits. Procurement cycles for fuel, reagents, and wear parts represent high-frequency, high-volume B2B contracting opportunities.

The processing plant integrates a multi-stage crushing circuit feeding into DMS and flotation modules, interconnected by an extensive network of conveyor belt systems handling high-tonnage spodumene ore and reject material. Conveyor maintenance — including belt replacement, idler servicing, and structural inspections — constitutes a recurring engineering workload. The plant targets both low-grade (4% Li₂O) and high-grade (6% Li₂O) spodumene concentrate streams, requiring precise material classification and separation engineering at scale.

MinRes maintains active Aboriginal Heritage compliance obligations under the WA Aboriginal Heritage Act, requiring ongoing ethnographic surveys and engagement protocols prior to any ground disturbance. The operation prioritises Indigenous procurement partnerships, with local Aboriginal-owned enterprises integrated into site services and logistics contracting. On the ESG value chain, spodumene concentrate is exported to Ganfeng's downstream lithium hydroxide conversion facilities in China, directly feeding global EV battery supply chains — positioning Mt Marion as a Tier-1 critical minerals node.
